PASSIVE COMPONENTS

RESISTOR

Resistor is also a prisoner or barrier, serves to inhibit the electric current through it. The greater the resistance of a resistor is placed, the smaller the current flowing. The unit value of resistance of a resistor is Ohm (Ω) be the symbol of the letter R.
There are two kinds of resistors used in electrical engineering and electronics, namely fixed resistors and variable resistors.

Fixed Resistor
Fixed resistor is the resistor which has a fixed resistance value. Below is shown the symbol of resistance remained.

Picture Symbols Fixed Resistors

Resistor color code states the price of resistance and tolerance. The smaller the value of a resistor tolerance th e better, because the actual price is the price listed (price tolerance). For example, a resistor Prices have 100 Ohm 5% tolerance, then the actual price is 100 - (5% x100) s / d 100 + (5% x100) = 95 Ohm s / d 105 Ohm.
There is a resistor 4 an d 5 color bands as seen in the picture below.

Picture with 4 color bands and 5 color bands

Table 4 resistor color bands

Bracelet 1 = The first number
Bracelet 2 = The second
Bracelet 3 = multiplier factor
Bracelet 4 = Tolerance

Example of reading the resistor color code 4 bands:
Red - Red - Brown – Gold

Read:
220 Ohm ± 5%

Description:
The value of 1st band is 2 (Red), the value of the 2nd band is 2 (Red), at times 3th band as a fact
or 101 (Brown), with a tolerance ± 5% on 4th band (Gold).

Table 5 color bands resistors

Bracelet 1 = The first number
Bracelet 2 = The second
Bracelet 3 = Third number
Bracelet 4 = Multiplier factor
Bracelet 5 = Tolerance

Examples of reading color code on resistors 5 bands:
Red - Red - Black -
Orange – Brown

Read:
220 KOhm ± 1%

Description:
The value of 1st band is 2 (Red), the value of the 2nd band is 2 (Red), the value of the 3th band is 0 (Black), at the time 4th band as a factor 103 (Orange), with tolerance ± 1% at the 5th band (Brown).

For clarity, the following picture resistors have 4 bands, 5 bands, up to 6 bands along with the resistor color chart. For the resistor which has 6 bands, bands sixth in a temperature coefficient resistor.

Other specifications that need to be considered in selecting a resistor on a draft of the resistance is greater than his, or watts maximum power that could be held by the resistor. Since resistors work with electrified, there will be a heat dissipation power for:

Variable resistor
Namely resistor whose value can change with shifting or rotating the way toggle on the tool, so that the resistor value can we assign as necessary. Functions as volume control (set the current size), tone control on the
sound system, high and low tone control (bass / treble) and functions as a voltage divider current and voltage.

a. Potentiometer
Resistor the resistance value can be altered by rotating shaft that has been available. Potentiometer is essentially the same as functionally trimpot.

b. Trimpot
Resistor the resistance value can be altered by rotating its axis by using a screwdriver. To determine the value of the resistance of a trimpot can be seen from the figures listed on the trimpot body.
